Huawei P40 Dual OS Smartphone
Dual OS Smartphone

Dual booting OS on smartphones has only been possible with custom ROMs and MODs, however, this feature may become official in the upcoming Huawei P40 Pro. Ever since Huawei got banned from the US, the Chinese tech giant have been working on its alternative OS, it very own smartphone OS, Harmony OS.

Some reports have suggested the Huawei’s Harmony OS will not come to smartphone but other Huawei smart devices, however, a new video suggests that it could happen soon, and may be coming with a dual boot option to boot Android OS too.

Huawei P40 Pro With Dual OS Option?

If a recent video by the YouTube channel TechZG is to be believed, Huawei’s future flagship for 2020 allegedly called the Huawei P40 Pro, is likely to come with dual OS allowing you to boot Huawei’s HarmonyOS or Android on the device.

The fascinating part of this story is that; the device will most likely run the latest Android 10 OS by Google. This will also make the Huawei P40 Pro the world’s first dual os smartphone.

In the case of custom roms, users can switch from one OS to the other but that feature won’t be available in the forthcoming Huawei smartphone. Users will only get to choose which OS to boot on the device with no option to switch between the two.

Let’s say you chose to boot Harmony OS on the device, you can’t switch to Android except you restart the device all over and vise versa.

Here’s the video that explains it better:

We’re all aware that Huawei already has a customized skin for Android, the EMUI skin and while people may begin to think Huawei will bring the EMUI skin, that won’t be happening has Huawei will be bringing a whole new interface to its OS.

Why The Dual OS Option?

The news comes as a surprise as Huawei introduced HarmonyOS for IoT and smart devices, eventually to get into smartphones.

However, a Huawei executive (during an interview with The Financial Times) suggested that the company’s Android alternative would take a couple of years to become a full-fledged option.

Therefore, the option of two OS in a Huawei smartphone seems feasible so that the company can easily switch the OS if things turn ugly for them in the future.

This option seems OK for users too, given that they have an option to choose from and not just use a completely new OS that might not turn as good as expected.

Although the company thinks positively about the OS, I am not sure how users would welcome the OS and whether or not it affects the user experience of the Huawei phones altogether.

Huawei P40 Pro Rumored Specs

The video also hints at possible specifics of the Huawei P40. The smartphone could be equipped with the Kirin 990 processor, improved camera, and run 5G out of the box.
