WhatsApp Adds Dark Mode In New Update

WhatsApp has started rolling out its most anticipated feature on Android and iOS globally, I’m talking of no other than the Dark Mode features which we’ve continuously talked about these past few months. The feature was first made available for beta testers, and now every WhatsApp can enjoy the new WhatsApp experience.

Dark mode for WhatsApp gives users a fresh look and experience. It’s designed to give users better readability in a dark environment while reducing eye strain. WhatsApp calls it “the most requested feature from our users everywhere,” and further stated that; “When designing dark mode we spent time researching and experimenting with a focus on two particular areas which are readability and information hierarchy.

  • Readability: When choosing colours, we wanted to minimize eye fatigue and use colours that are closer to the system defaults on iPhone and Android respectively.
  • Information Hierarchy: We wanted to help users easily focus their attention on each screen. We did this by using colour and other design elements to make sure the most important information stands out.”

Activating WhatsApp Dark Mode is pretty easy, depending on the OS version you’re running on your device. Check the simple steps below;

  1. First off, update your WhatsApp app to the latest version from the Android store or iOS store.
  2. If you’re running the latest Android 10 or iOS 13 which supports system-wide dark mode, you can enable dark mode by enabling it in system settings.
  3. Users running Android 9 or iOS 12 and should navigate to WhatsApp Settings.
  4. In the settings list, select Chats.
  5. Under the chat menu, you’ll find the new theme option, select ‘Dark’.

That’s it, dark mode will then be enabled across your WhatsApp. You can also enable solid background colours in the chat settings if you don’t like the stylish dark wallpaper.

If you’ve already updated and still can’t find the dark mode option, it means the feature is still rolling out not yet available for you. Just wait for the next update and you may also get the new WhatsApp feature.
