MultiChoice Africa has launched a new Explora Ultra decoder that comes with Netflix and Showmax integration. The company had signed a mega-deal with Netflix and Amazon Prime Video back in June to offer their streaming service through its decoder just like the Android TV box we have today.
The new Explora Ultra decoder comes with built-in Wi-Fi capabilities, 4k UHD and Dolby Atmos support, a redesigned interface for easier access to on-demand contents, and new remote. The company also said more streaming service will be delivered through an update in the future.
According to the company, the new Explora decoder will give customers an enhanced viewing experience while delivering the best available local and international content from DStv, Netflix and Showmax.
“The DStv Explora Ultra has a range of amazing features developed to cater to how our customers watch content today. It delivers seamless enjoyment of broadcast, recorded, streaming, downloaded, and CatchUp content in one easy-to-use environment,”
“The Explora Ultra makes it easier than ever before to find, explore and enjoy new content from across DStv channels and third-party streaming apps.”Said MultiChoice CEO
With the Netflix app onboard, customers will have the option to sign into existing account or sign up for a new Netflix account to enjoy the service. The same goes for Showmax.
DStv Explora Ultra customers will also be able to add their Netflix subscription to their monthly DStv bill. This means customers they will have an option to pay for their Netflix subscription in their monthly bill. What we don’t know, however, is how much Netflix package through the platform will cost.
MultiChoice also stated that the inclusion of the Netflix app on its Explora Ultra platform with connection to the Internet opens the door to Netflix’s critically acclaimed local and international entertainment across a wide variety of genres.
The DStv Explora Ultra decoder has a recommended retail price of R2,499 (approx $34) for the standalone device and R3,699 (approx $50) including installation. The decoder will be available at selected retail stores from next week.
